Platelet-Rich Plasma PRP skin and hair rejuvenation treatments are frequently sensationalised by mainstream media. The truth is that PRP has been used for decades to repair and rejuvenate human tissue safely and with incredible outcomes.
PRP uses the platelets (or growth factors) that have been isolated from your blood to repair and rejuvenate skin tissue and hair follicles. For example, when your body has an injury to its soft tissue, it naturally sends platelets to this area to start the healing process. These platelets then release growth factors that increase the production of collagen, stimulate blood flow, and regenerate at the injury site. A cosmetic PRP treatment is merely harnessing that reaction and targeting it towards specific areas you would like to improve the health and appearance of, such as your skin and hair!
Treatment begins by drawing a small amount of your blood and then placing it in a specialised centrifuge to spin and separate out the platelets from the red blood cells. Next, the plasma is prepared for topical or injectable application. There are several ways to utilise this plasma to enhance your appearance.
COMMON PRP TREATMENTS
‘The Vampire Facelift’ PRP for the face:
This is a treatment focused on increasing the health, vibrancy, lift, and volume of your skin. Your plasma is injected into your skin in areas commonly filled with dermal fillers. Your PRP Facelift can be complemented with dermal fillers during your treatment for an accelerated result. The PRP Facelift is commonly performed with a PRP Facial to enhance your results dramatically.
PRP For the Undereye Area:
Many patients have concerns about their delicate undereye area, whether it be dark circles, hollowing or wrinkles. This natural approach creates a more youthful face shape and is highly beneficial to that undereye area.
PRP Hair Restoration:
PRP can be directed to target the regrowth of beneficial components of our skin, its power can also be focused on our follicles. Injections of PRP into your scalp can help you produce stronger, longer and thicker hair by bringing dormant follicles back to life. This method of hair restoration may be beneficial to those suffering from alopecia, heredity hair loss, hormonally-induced hair thinning and male pattern baldness. It can also help post- hair transplant patients to ‘bed-in’ their new hair. It is important to note that multiple treatments will be needed to see optimal outcomes with this PRP therapy.
THE RESULTS
Following your PRP Facelift:
Immediately after your PRP Facial treatment, your skin may be slightly tender at the injection sites, but you will see an immediate lift and brightness to your skin. As the weeks pass, you will notice your skin begin to look and feel firmer, thicker and more lifted. Because PRP can also increase the micro-circulation in our skin, it is not uncommon to get compliments about how radiant, refreshed, and glowing you look! To maintain the results of your PRP Facelift, we recommend treatment every 12 to 18 months. With each treatment, your skin will not only look better, but it will also be healthier overall.
Following your PRP Facial:
As with any Microneedling procedure, your skin will appear slightly pink after your treatment. Because the PRP is topically applied in this method, you will be advised not to wash your face for at least 12 hours. Within three days you'll notice smoother, tighter and more vibrant looking skin. Within three months you may note significant softening of acne scarring, enlarged pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. The PRP Facial is best done in a series of treatments and repeated at least once a year from there on out to continuously improve your skin and prevent the signs of aging
Following PRP Hair Restoration:
Immediately after your PRP Hair Restoration treatment, your scalp will be tender and slightly inflamed. This response is, and any redness may take up to one week to fully subside. It is recommended that you wear a hat the day after your treatment in the event of sun exposure.
Because the growth cycle of new hair happens in intervals of 3 to 4 weeks, results with this method of PRP take time to be realised. It can take up to 3 months to see the beginning stages of fresh, new, fine hairs being to grow in. But, most of our patients note marked improvement after only one treatment. New growth will be thicker and stronger and denser in its growth.
Whether you seek platelet-rich plasma treatments because they are a natural way to rejuvenate your appearance, or you are merely looking for a way to boost and enhance the effectiveness of your other treatments like dermal fillers and/or Microneedling, PRP is a wonderful treatment option that delivers safe and effective results.
